BEATH AND COWDENBEATH NORTH CHURCH OF SCOTLAND

                                YOUTH WORK

Beath and Cowdenbeath North Church of Scotland has a long history of effective youth work and continues to have strong vision to reach out to young people in our community with the love of Christ and to give them the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel and so be able to grow as Christian disciples.

In recent years the church has had a youth group of around ten to fifteen young people ranging in ages from about 11 to 17. The group met on Sunday evenings from 6:30pm until 8pm and enjoyed all sorts of games, discussions, activities and times of worship together. They have also enjoyed weekends away and trips to special events together. Some found faith in Christ through these times – others have grown in their understanding of “God, the Universe and everything!” And everyone had fun! A number of the youth group now play in the church’s praise band and although the group is not meeting at present there are plans to renew the youth work of the church and to open it up to a wider group of young people.

To this end the church has been working with the Initiative, a local community charity set up by churches in the area, to develop a youth club on a weekday evening and to form better links with the teenagers of the area. We will shortly be employing a part-time Youth Worker to work with the staff of the Initiative to establish and run the youth club and to get to know the young people of our community. The Youth Worker will also be spending time working for the church, developing the specifically Christian youth work of the church. Although these two areas of work as necessarily separate – we are confident that they will complement and enhance each other. The Youth Worker will be supported by volunteers from the church in developing both of these areas of youth work. If you are interested in applying for the Youth Worker’s post, please see the details on the separate Youth Worker page.
