Hi, I am David Redmayne, the minister of Beath and Cowdenbeath North Church of Scotland. I lead the church along with twenty-two elders. I was ordained on 12 January 2001, at the age of 48, and have been the minister at BCNC since then. I am married to Carol who was a midwife before retiring in 2012. We have three grown-up children: Matthew, who is married to Amber and lives in Lauder, Katie who lives in Penicuik and Daniel who has graduated from Edinburgh University and currently lives in Dunfermline.

Before entering the ministry I worked as a scientist for over fifteen years. I was a Senior Scientific Officer with the British Geological Survey engaged in the study of earthquakes. I am thankful for my scientific background for it has given me many insights into the wonder of God’s creation. I lived in Penicuik at that time and was a member and elder in Penicuik North Kirk. It was there, as I developed the Alpha Course and took part in many areas of the life of the church, that I sensed that God was calling me into full-time ministry. I studied for my BD degree at New College in Edinburgh University, from 1996 until 1999 and after eighteen months as a probationer at Penicuik South Kirk I was called to Cowdenbeath.
I am kept busy with the work of the parish and duties of Presbytery but I also try to find time to relax. I like nothing better than to get away to the country on my day off, enjoying a quiet stroll in the fresh air or occasionally a more challenging hike up a mountain. I love to be out there amongst God’s creation taking in the beauty of it all and sometimes doing my best to capture something of it all on photographs. Also important for Carol and me is to have times with our family and wider family – enjoying special times together.
My passion in ministry is to encourage everyone to know how special they are to God and for them to grow in their relationship with him through faith in Jesus. I firmly believe that God equips every Christian with spiritual gifts, through the Holy Spirit, to enable us all to serve one another and so to build up the church. For me, the most rewarding aspect of ministry is to see Christian people growing in Christ-centred confidence and for the church to become a place where every member knows and exercises their God-given ministry. I am also convinced that the church is for people of every age and background and that there should be a place for everyone in the church. It is important to me to bring people of every age together for worship and to see the children in our midst blessed by the love and acceptance they receive and so learning that God cares for them.
